At the end of the day, all we have left are photos.
To tell the stories of who we are,
and who we once were.
I know firsthand what it is like to lose a loved one too soon, and having that feeling of regret for not asking enough questions, and spending more time learning about their story.
As someone who lost half of my grandparents before I was even born, I’ve often thought about them. I ask the elders in my life who were they? What were they like? Tell me everything you know. So that maybe, for a second, I could feel like I know them. That I can feel their presence and see them in those who are still here.
One of my favourite pastimes as a little girl was looking through old photo albums and reliving all the special moments my family captured, even if I was too young to remember them. My parents often sat beside me and reminisced, telling me stories from the past - whether it was about them, my grandparents, or baby Tamara.
It was the only way I could get a glimpse into their life.
I believe photos are more than just a pretty image. They document life as it is, alongside the people you love. There is something so beautiful about capturing and preserving life like a visual time capsule because life can be a fleeting moment. So what better time to capture precious memories than here and now.
